Rex started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2009 at the age of 31 after retiring from playing his first sporting passion Rugby League & Union.

Rex founded TerraLuta BJJ in 2011, the first and only BJJ academy in his home town of Gympie. Terra Luta is now the longest serving Cia Paulista affiliate in Australia. In 2019 Rex had the honour to receive his Black belt from his long time mentor and coach Carlos Portuguese Vieira.

On his journey to becoming a well rounded coach, Rex has picked up his Cert3/4 in fitness and his Level 1 StrongFirst Kettlebell instructors certificate.

As of May 2024 Rex oversees 100 BJJ students and has produced several State, National & Pan Pacific Jiu-Jitsu champions.

Tim Aitken

Nickname: Bacon

Tim is Gympie born & raised. He has been immersed in the art of Jiu-Jitsu since 2011, commencing his journey at Terra Luta. He finds great satisfaction in the diverse nature of Jiu-Jitsu, which offers a blend of engagement, challenge, and occasional frustration, yet remains profoundly gratifying. These elements have led some to affectionately refer to him as a Jiu-Jitsu addict.

Among his many accomplishments in life which includes being one of Gympie's most popular disability support workers and many medals on the BJJ competition mats, he feels being the first TLBJJ student to receive his Black belt from Coach Rex is at the pinnacle.

Sean Dixon

Jasen Bicsak

Nick name: Jas, Sack

Jas was a rifleman in the Australian Armed forces and completed a deployment in Afghanistan with 7RAR. After leaving the military he transitioned into a role in corrections at a maximum security prison in Melbourne before relocating to Gympie.

His journey into combat sports started as a kid receiving his Taekwondo Black belt in High School. In 2007 he began training MMA while stationed in Darwin. He really enjoyed the ground game aspect and exclusively started focusing on Jiu-Jitsu. In Darwin he trained at Performance Gym, followed by North Side in Adelaide, which is now called Armour. He furthered his skills at various locations in Melbourne, including EFMA, before settling in Gympie, where he now trains at TLBJJ under the guidance of Coach Rex.

Aside from his jiu jitsu obsession, other interests include gaming, painting, military history, and sharing knowledge in his Advanced No-Gi classes.
